Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in power within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of heroes who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as important members in the influential clan could help the team enter locations they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
